Are you a good candidate?

Most people can be treated with the PhotoDerm® and VascuLight™ Systems, including children. Since the system attacks the pigment in the skin, people with darker skin tones or tanned skin may not have the rate of success as someone with lighter skin. A consultation is always recommended to determine whether you are a candidate for PhotoDerm® and VascuLight™ .

Possible Side Effects

  • Pain—When a shot is triggered, some patients experience various degrees of discomfort. Some describe the sensation as stinging, while others describe it as a rubber band snap. A burning sensation may last up to a few hours after treatment.

  • Damage to skin texture—A crust or blister may form, which may take up to two weeks to heal.

  • Change of pigmentation—There may be a change in pigmentation in the treated area. This mainly occurs in people with darker skin tones or those that have been exposed to sunlight. This usually fades in three to six months.

  • Scarring—There is a very small chance of scarring.

  • Excessive Swelling—Immediately after treatment, the skin may temporarily swell, especially on the face, but should subside in three to seven days.

Contraindications

Pregnancy, medications that cause photosensitivity, exposure to the sun, tanned skin, dark skin, history of keloid scarring, history of bleeding disorders, diabetes, and anticoagulant therapy are all contraindications for the PhotoDerm® and VascuLight™ treatments.

Other considerations include connective tissue disease, compromised skin (previous cosmetic procedures, scars, abrasions, blisters, open wounds, etc.), treatment over tattoos, Accutane, Retin-A or glycolic acid use, and lesions of unknown etiology,
